How do you open a trunk without a key?

Unlocking locked car in Miami FL using locksmiths Technics for opening the car safely

Forgot your keys inside your trunk? Don’t cry too hard, it happens to everyone!

If you have a Slim Jim available / something else you could use to open your front door- we have a few DIY tips!

If you don’t have any tools on you, check what’s around- you could call a locksmith, but it might take up to 20 min response time for him to get to you and another 5 to 10 min to open the trunk door- it’s simple and won’t cost you more than 50$, so either way- you’re safe!

First – unlock your cars’ doors to get inside:

Use the Slim Jim to gently unlock and open your car door; first try to slide the hook of your Slim Jim inside, through the passengers’ side window. When inside, feel around to find the locking mechanism of your car. It will usually be right next to the window, on your car door handle. Hook the rod to the locking mechanism, to unlock you have to make sure the Slim Jim is stuck well inside the lock rod, then pull it up gently until you hear your normal unlocking click sound – congratulations! Your car is now unlocked!

When inside – work the trunk:

Once you’ve unlocked your car you can easily pull the handle (from outside) and get inside. Then, open the trunk by pulling the manual release, usually located in the drivers’ side, underneath your steering wheel. In case the release is stuck, head to the back seat to manually release the lever (you have to fold the back seat down to access your trunk).

Last but not least!

When you’re inside your trunk release the safety lever, usually located near the trunks’ back / front. This one is important as this lever is there to protect you and prevent anyone from being locked inside a trunk. Once you pull the lever – your trunk door will open immediately!

How much does it cost to make a key from a lock?

Locks & Keys - Quickly locksmith Miami

Making a new key without the original, based solely on the lock, is a fairly simple procedure that any certified locksmith can do in minimal timing. About the costs- it could be 20$ and up to 350$- depending on the lock and where your locksmith came from to get the job done!

Your Local Miami locksmith:

As Quickly Locksmith offers re-keying, done by the highest standards, 100% insured, without the original key needed, at a price that’s unbeatable around Miami– and rest assured, we’ve checked around! Re-keying a lock without working the pins at all is the easiest job a locksmith can do- it costs around 15-30$ (depending on your location and how many keys you’d want eventually). This is a simple, on site, job- and still we recommend you won’t settle for just any available locksmith and make sure you choose a certified locksmith, as our work is 100% insured.

Your door- Your Pins- Your New Key:

When we’re working on your lock in order to make a new set of keys it is a delicate job; sometime a locksmith would have to re arrange the locks’ pins so any old keys wondering around the world would be irrelevant now (it’s the safest way to go about it when moving to a new property etc.) that is a craft that might add a sum to the total amount required to get the job done- a sum that ranges between 5o$ in case we’re dealing with an old school simple lock, and might even be 90$. The reason would be that newest innovative smart locks pins are harder to re-shape and might damage the entire lock.

Key cutting is also very cheap- 5$ to 20$ for a new smart key!

How to make a Spare Key - Without the Original?

Lots a keys waiting for being re-keyed for new high security

Hey! We’ve all been there! And still… Losing your key could be frustrating as hell!

Now the good thing is if you remain calm, this is a completely manageable situation and the good news are- in most central locations, you’ll be back on you marry way in less than one hour. How? What should you do?

Here’s our locksmith tips on how to make a spare key when you don’t have the original!

Central location – Call a locksmith ASAP!

When you’re stuck outside your car / house / work without a key and you’re currently in a central location just call a certified locksmith company! Why? Well a certified locksmith can make a spare key without the original, with no damage to your locks- on the spot, in less than 20 min…

So we’d highly recommend you take all this frustration out- away from the actual lock, we’re going to need it in perfect shape so we can match a new key!

Remote location – look for a hardware store nearby:

If you’re locked out and lost your key when you’re in a remote location that a locksmith might take a few hours to get to- you’ll need to dismantle your lock from the door its attached to; the first thing you’ll need is a screwdriver- look for a way to dismantle your door knob and when it’s out- you’ll see your lock inside the internal mechanism, gently loosen whatever it is attaching it and take your lock to the nearest hardware store. Please be aware this is a temporary solution as the keys made there are very cheap (sometimes even made in an automated machines- that is, when you have to original and want to make a spare) and not reliable… it would be wise to take that key to a proper locksmith company and make a solid key ASAP.

What is lock snapping

Our Local Locksmith Technician provides locksmith services for Armani stores In Miami FL

What is lock snapping?

door locks - quickly locksmith Miami

To simplify things – locks snapping equals cylinder snapping; it requires absolutely no skills and any burglar who set his (or her…) mind to it -could do it, and do it well!

As strong as your lock might be, it still has one soft spot, more vulnerable to damages, the locks’ cylinder!

Here’s all you need to know about lock snapping- and most importantly, how you can easily prevent it in your property!

Locks snapping around the world:

With smart locks and security cameras attached to security systems, personalized entry systems, restricted entry and other innovative locks & security measurements- you’d be surprised lock snapping is picking up momentum as much as it did, this decade. Of course if we look deeper, immigration and refugees has definitely transformed major cities around the world, and now in almost any big city you can find a ‘downtown‘ area where most population is poor and crime is bound to hit roots… You know your neighborhood and you know its surrounding areas nature – if you hear about burglaries around and you hear the police visiting frequently, be smarter and secure yourself! How? Great question!

Anti-Snap locks:

The safest way to make sure you’re not exposed to lock snapping is checking your lock. Euro locks are tested and approved as either SS312 Diamond or TS007. In most wooden or uPVC the euro locks are highly reliable.

How can you identify your locks anti snap security level? Look for the SS312 Diamond, that’s the highest level of strength approval for a euro cylinder lock / The three Star Kite-Mark Logo – indicates the lock is tested and approved to prevent locks snapping / A 1-star kite Mark cylinder, along with a 2-star kite mark on the furniture (handles, cylinder guard) match a three star kite mark as well.

How to fix your smart door if it won’t lock

How to fix your smart door if it won't lock?

Quickly Locksmith Miami Team Members

Today, smart locks are more common and effective than ever before. Their efficiency in easily and securely limiting access as well as the flexibility they provide in where and how they can be installed make them a must-have security feature for businesses of any size. It’s not only businesses that can benefit from the advanced security and flexibility of smart locks though and residential and vacation properties can also reap the benefits.

However, like any technology, smart locks can suffer from technical glitches from time to time, getting either locked shut or open. Don’t panic though, here are our top locksmith tips on how to fix these issues!

Check the door and smart lock alignment

Due to the way they are designed, we cannot simply look inside a smart lock. Beneath these smart mechanisms though, lies a lock much like you would see on any other door and this needs to be perfectly aligned in order to function properly. Any misalignment can potentially wear out the smart software that works inside every time the door is operated so if you spot any issues, try to realign it. This can often get the door to working as expected.

Don’t do anything more than 3 times

Most smart locks have an automated locking mechanism to increase security against burglary. This means that any action tried more than 3 times could engage this safety feature and operate the lock for half an hour or in some instances, more. If, however, you’ve already gone past this point and you’ve already tried operating the mechanism with an access code, hand or voice ID too many times, you will have to wait for the lock to reboot.

When you need to reboot

Batteries are the first thing you should check when your smart lock fails to work as expected. When batteries are weak, the lock might get stuck in the locked or open position. A red indicator means that one of the batteries is weak and you should have it replaced as soon as possible to avoid any problems.

Weak signals can also be problematic as most smart locks are connected wirelessly to a security system. When this connection is weak, the lock may need to reboot in order to reassign itself to the network and improve signal strength.

Why won’t your key turn inside its lock

Unlocking a locked door & Providing Residential Locksmith Services in Miami FL

Why won't your key turn inside its lock?

locksmith services for doors Miami FL

Keys seem to have an annoying tendency of jamming when we most need them and least expect them to. If you’ve experienced this, you’re not alone. When this annoyance strikes, the biggest locksmith pro-tip to remember is to stay calm! Try to put your frustration aside and be gentle with your lock as being overly eager with a stuck lock often leads to more problems.

Why won’t my car key turn?

When a car key is stuck inside the lock and won’t turn, it is usually down to one of two problems; either you didn’t put it in the right way or there is a security mechanism at play.

If you suspect it is because the key has been inserted the wrong way around, try to gently pull the key out, moving from side to side. Sometimes a little bump can help you to slide the key out without causing damage to both the lock and/or the key. If that isn’t the case, then it’s likely that you’re experiencing some sort of security feature. For example, a steering lock requires you to gently turn the key and steering wheel at the same time. If this doesn’t work, then it’s possible the car’s security system is involved and it may require 10-15 minutes in order to reboot.

Why won’t my home door key turn?

It is extremely rare for a key to get stuck with most modern smart locks. However, if you mistakenly use the wrong key or accidentally insert the key incorrectly, many smart locks will identify this as a ‘dangerous’ action and automatically activate the locking mechanism. The good news that in this situation, you will just have to wait and the key will come out easily within 5 minutes once the automatic locking mechanism has rebooted.

With traditional locks, just like the lock itself, the problem is often much simpler. Rust inside the lock can degrade the internal workings, just as a rusty key can cause problems too. In this case, a good quality lubricating spray, squirted inside the lock and/or on to the key will help to break down the rust and get things working again. A word of warning, though – if rust is present this method is only a temporary fix and if left unchecked, the metals will continue to degrade. Speak to your local locksmith company in order to have the problem resolved properly as soon as possible.

How to fix a lock that came out of its doorknob

Unlocking and Changing locks at a residential home in Miami FL

How to fix a lock that came out of its doorknob?

screwing and finishing brand new door installation including brand new high security lock

In most cases all that is needed to fix a lock that has fallen out of position is to re-strengthen the same areas (after all, they were chosen for a reason!) New material such as screws or locksmith super glue are the first port of call but should be monitored over a couple of days to ensure it stays strong. It must be noted though that this tip is only useful if the lock is otherwise strong and in good overall condition. If not, call your local locksmith.

First, check the damage:

Sometimes a broken lock can be the result of a poorly aligned locking mechanism or other malfunction that adds constant pressure with each latch strike or door level movement. When this is the case, a certified locksmith will explain the options available and you may well be surprised that the fix is relatively simple and cost effective. We are available to help any time, any day, so just give us a call!

Second, check the door:

If the lock came out of its doorknob soon after it became loose, it’s possible no further damage was created to the door. However, if the lock rattled around for weeks or months, it’s likely that further damage could have been inflicted to the door itself by the heavy lock metal. If you have a loose lock, it’s best to have it looked at sooner rather than later to avoid this. Our expert locksmiths can check to see if the door is strong enough to reassemble the loose lock or if a new lock is required. Again you might well be surprised at how cost effective this can be!

Look inside your lock:

If the lock has already fallen out, you can at least now take it to your lock locksmith so they can give you an honest and expert opinion. If the door itself is strong and didn’t suffer any damage, the lock can usually be fixed on the spot for less than $20 and reattached easily to give a cheap AND safe result.

How to Burglar Proof Doors

How to Burglar Proof Doors

screwing and finishing brand new door installation including brand new high security lock

Often after experiencing a break in, the first thought that comes to mind is ‘how did this happen’ and ‘how can I prevent it from happening again?’. Quickly Locksmith in Miami is here to shed some light on how and why burglars do what they do and more importantly, how you can stay one step ahead and prevent these things from happening. As most locksmiths will tell you, understanding the weaknesses of your locks and security systems will predict the solution and prevent the most common burglary tactics from becoming an actual burglary!

Massive attack:

Home burglars are experts in their field. They have their tricks and they also know your neighborhood. Looking for a local locksmith is imperative as not only are they qualified and experts in their field, but they also know your neighborhood and the common methods thieves are using in the local area.

Speak to your local locksmith experts and ask how recent burglaries are taking place in your area. Often, you’ll find that brute force is used to break down weak wooden doors and you’d probably be surprised at how easily and with so little noise burglars are capable of doing this. 90% of burglars would rather avoid metal doors as breaking them is a much bigger task. More importantly perhaps is that doing so quietly is almost impossible and draws a lot of attention.

Speak to our experts at Quickly Locksmiths for expert advice on your local community and how we can protect your house and belongings!

Prevent direct door access:

Quickly Locksmiths in Miami know all too well that the harder it is to gain direct access to a door, the harder it is to break into the property behind it. We can provide individual assessment of your property and make expert suggestions on what can be done to limit access. For example, an additional lock on your gates or a security camera placed in plain sight to act as a deterrent and an added layer of security.
