When you pay for locksmith services and new lock or security-related products, naturally, you want the upgrades and work done to last. Do locksmiths offer a warranty though?
Some locksmiths offer warranties, but it is not standard practice. The locksmiths that do generally also only base their warranties on what’s offered by the manufacturers of the products they sell and install. In some rare cases, a locksmith will offer a labor warranty too.
For your own information, here are the types of warranties a locksmith might offer:
- Manufacturer Warranty. Depending on the product, a manufacturer usually provides a one-year warranty. In most instances, if something goes wrong with a product your locksmith installed, you will need to contact the manufacturer directly. If you deal with a reputable locksmith though, there’s a much higher chance that they only carry quality security products, so you may not need the warranty at all. A locksmith can also help you with a replacement should you need to rely on a manufacturer warranty though.
- Work Warranty. As mentioned, some locksmiths do have a labor warranty in place. This means that their work is guaranteed for a specified period of time. In some instances, this warranty will also cover the products or hardware that was purchased and installed. This won’t apply to products that are damaged due to negligence, misuse, or natural phenomenon though.
If you are concerned about the longevity or quality of a locksmith’s work and the products/hardware they use, make a point of choosing your locksmith carefully.
Taking the time to research locksmiths in your area will save you a lot of time, money, and frustration later on.
