Why Every Motorcycle Owner Needs a Reliable Locksmith

Why every motorcycle owner needs a reliable locksmith

Motorcycles are designed to give you freedom. They help you enjoy the world around you. They get you where you need to go. But if you lose your keys or damage a lock on your motorcycle then all that freedom is taken away.

If you are a motorcycle owner, having a reliable locksmith can make all the difference.

Broken Motorcycle Key

It is not uncommon for motorcycle keys to break due to the brittle nature of the metal most commonly used. If a key breaks outside the lock cylinder, then you will need a locksmith to make you a new key. Simply take the broken key to your locksmith and they will be able to help you.

However, if the key breaks in the cylinder lock, you have a bigger problem. There are two ways to fix this. One. Contact your locksmith as they will have the tools necessary to remove the broken key without damaging the cylinder. Two. Use a broken key extractor to carefully remove the key yourself so the locksmith can make you a new one.

Do not attempt to remove the key without the correct tools as you can do more damage to the lock. If the lock gets too damaged the cylinder itself will need to be replaced.

Key Replacement Services

Ordering a new key from your dealership could cost you hundreds of dollars.

A locksmith can make you a new key from your VIN number, your cylinder code, or from taking a good look at your ignition cylinder itself.

Many new motorcycle keys share the same traits as car keys, like coming with a fob. If your motorcycle needs a new fob as well as key, these can be programmed by a reliable locksmith.

Lock Cylinder Replacement

There are times when getting a new key may not be enough. The lock itself may be damaged or worn. While you can take your bike back to the manufacturer to have them replace the ignition cylinder this is also a skill most locksmiths have.

By asking your local locksmith to replace the cylinder with a new one, you can save yourself on both cost and time.

Motorcycle Locks

The ignition cylinder is not the only lock on a motorcycle that could need the help of a skilled locksmith.

Many motorcycle owners use padlocks, disk brake locks, and brake locks as added security. All locks have the potential to break or jam. They are often open to the elements allowing debris to get stuck in the lock. Attempted thefts can damage the locks and prevent them from working.

Having a locksmith that you can count on will ensure that you can deal with these issues swiftly and at an affordable rate.

Getting Stranded

One of the main problems with broken locks or lost keys with a motorbike is that it can leave you stranded.

Many locksmiths offer some form of automotive care. They will drive out to stranded cars to fix the locks and get the drivers moving again. This is also true of stranded motorcyclists. By calling a locksmith, they can assist you in replacing your keys or fixing your locks so you can get on the road once more.

Why is this beneficial?

For one, it gets you moving and about your day again saving you a lot of time and stress. But it also prevents you from having to call someone to tow your bike which can incur heavy costs.
